Hurricane Melissa – Jamaica Travel Update
29 October 2025
Hurricane Melissa has dominated the news for several days, and today, the extent of the damage is being assessed. The storm was devastating for those in its direct path, and our thoughts are with everyone affected.
At Caribbee, we are committed to supporting our clients during this difficult time. We have worked diligently to rebook those whose flights were cancelled due to the hurricane.
Airport Status:
• Kingston (Norman Manley International Airport):
Reports indicate minimal damage. We are hopeful it will reopen before the weekend.
• Montego Bay (Sangster International Airport):
Located closer to Hurricane Melissa’s path, Sangster suffered more extensive damage, including:
o Debris on the tarmac
o Flooding in operational zones
o Damaged lighting systems and infrastructure
Reopening may take longer than Kingston, but we await further updates.
Airline Operations:
Both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have cancelled services to Jamaica until 30 October 2025. They are reviewing the situation hourly.
Important Notice:
Please understand that this is a natural disaster. As such, compensation for cancelled or delayed flights is not applicable under current travel regulations.
If you have booked with Caribbee and need advice or assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Unfortunately, we are unable to assist travellers who did not book through Caribbee, as we only have access to information for our own clients. Those affected should reach out directly to their booking providers.
